Italian Ministry of Education removes GSuite from the recommendation list for distance learning

On July 16, 2020, the Court of Justice of the European Union invalidated the Privacy Shield, the international treaty that covered the transfer of data from the European Union to the United States. The Court stated that the transfer of data to the United States is not safe for European citizens, and for this reason it has also greatly reduced the use of “Standard Contractual Clauses” – an alternative legal means for the transfer. GSuite for Education still actively transfers student personal data to the United States, based on the Standard Contractual Clauses. The Ministry of Education first ignored these indications but removed GSuite from the list recommended platforms for schools to do distance learning.
