AI-driven cyberattacks are becoming a systemic risk for the financial sector
The Financial Stability Board (FSB) currently identifies the impact of advanced AI on cyber risk as the most urgent threat to global financial stability.
Frontier AI can drastically change the speed, scale, and cost of cyberattacks, allowing vulnerabilities to be discovered and exploited more rapidly.
At the same time, the dependence on only a few large technology providers creates a concentration risk that could undermine trust in the entire financial system.
FSB Chair Andrew Bailey therefore calls on governments and financial institutions for global agreements on secure AI deployment, cyber resilience, and recovery capabilities.
The message to executives: AI risk is no longer just an IT or compliance issue, but increasingly a strategic systemic and continuity risk.
