Digital Government Act adopted by the Second Chamber
The Digital Government Act has been passed by the Second chamber. The aim of the Digital Government Act is to regulate the safe and reliable login for Dutch citizens and companies with the (semi-) government. Safe and reliable log-in means that citizens receive electronic identification means with a higher degree of reliability than the current DigiD.
These identifiers give public service providers more certainty about someone’s identity. The law also makes open standards mandatory. With this, the Netherlands implements the EU directive on accessibility of government websites and apps. where eIDAS and AVG are strict requirements for private participants to gain regulated access to the identity domain of the government. Now the first chamber still has to agree to a public-private identity system.
